I'm not sure what else West Plains, Missouri has given the world, but that community did give us one of the great female voices in the history of country music.

Jan Howard was born Lula Johnson in 1930 and became one of the most loved voices in country music.

Jan's 'hey-day' in country music was the 1950's and 1960's when she had several hits, many of them written by her husband at the time, and perhaps the greatest songwriter in country music history, Harlan Howard.

Her biggest single is the one featured in the video above, 1966's 'Evil On Your Mind'.

Jan teamed with Country Music hall of Fame member Bill Anderson for a number of duet country hits in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

So whatever happened to Jan Howard?

Well, she joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1971 and still performs there.  Plus, at the age of 82, she still occasionally tours and performs with fellow Opry stars (and friends) Jeannie Seely and Jean Shepard as the 'Great Ladies Of The Grand Ole Opry' package show.
