Were You Paying Attention in Chemistry Class?

Mr. Robert Medeck was one of my favorite teachers at Yankton Senior High School and that was an accomplishment of great note, because- - he taught Chemistry. A subject I feared almost as much as I hated it. But thanks entirely to his enthusiastic style, sense of humor, love of the subject and dedication to making sure you actually understood it, I passed his class with a solid B.

This was a miracle. I knew it, my parents knew it, but to Mr. Medeck, this was an accomplishment he fully expected from me. He was just that kind of guy. Soft-spoken, bespectacled and super-smart, he wasn't one of those people who asked for, or got, much attention. I think he loved to teach and he was good at it.

The reason for this trip down education memory lane? I came across a BuzzFeed chemistry quiz which I passed with flying colors, even after all these years! So apparently I was actually paying closer attention to what Mr. Medeck was ministering than I even knew. Thank you Mr. Medeck, you sincerely taught me something which stayed with me.
