Waterline Break Floods Deadwood Business Basements

DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) — Several Main Street businesses in Deadwood were damaged when a water line broke and dumped as much as 150,000 gallons of water into their basements.

The break on Saturday in an unoccupied and unheated building wasn't discovered for more than six hours. The Rapid City Journal reports water was still seeping into basements on Monday, and at least half a dozen businesses in the western South Dakota gambling town were running sump pumps.

Bullock Hotel Assistant General Manager Lucy Pearson says that business expects to continue running the pumps for days.

The A.G. Trucano company owns and maintains about 800 slot machines at 18 Deadwood casinos. Officials say the waterline break submerged a computer server, took a ticketing system offline and resulted in lost revenues Saturday evening.
