There is something quite special about being at the birth of a dream and then watching it come to fruition. There is also an immense pride in seeing a person you love set a goal, work hard and accomplish it. Years ago, my friend Melissa Johnson and I chatted about her desire to start a business. She was still in radio full-time then, but she was already plotting a sweet alternate future course.

Mel worked hard, did her research, got her financing and recipes in order and ultimately launched her business! Oh My Cupcakes is now a Sioux Falls institution. Even if you've never tried one of their luscious products, you've heard about them. If you've had their sumptuous cupcakes, you're destined to have more! Ben nicknamed Melissa "Cupcake Mel" years ago and many people refer to her by that name when they stop in the store.

Melissa did all of this while raising three terrific children, becoming a national public speaker, donating her time and talents to charity and juggling the ups and downs of life with all of its maddening facets. She has prevailed marvelously and I am fortunate to call her one of my dearest friends and so very proud of her accomplishing what so many of us can't or don't- -turning a dream into reality.
