Since Merle Haggard‘s death on April 6, many country artists have offered up tributes to and remembrances of the iconic singer-songwriter. During an appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in the days following Haggard's death, Scotty McCreery performed one of Haggard's most well-known songs.

On April 12, during his time on the Opry stage, McCreery sang "Mama Tried," strumming the song out on his acoustic guitar as his band added in more of the melody and harmonies. Readers can press play on the video above to watch.

"God bless Mr. Merle Haggard, y'all!" McCreery said at the end of his performance, earning a round of applause from the Opry audience.

"Mama Tried" comes from Haggard's 1968 album of the same name. The No. 1 song received a Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1999 and has been preserved in the National Recording Registry.

"Was an honor to pay tribute to one of the greatest artists country music will ever know, on the greatest stage in country music," McCreery writes on Instagram. On Twitter, following Haggard's passing, McCreery reflected, "He'll be missed, but his great music and legacy will carry on forever."

McCreery is not the only artist who has paid tribute to "the Hag" on the Grand Ole Opry stage: On April 15, Vince Gill debuted "A World Without Haggard," a song that he wrote reflecting on the late artist's life, music and legacy.

On May 3, McCreery will begin a book tour in support of his autobiography, Go Big or Go Home: The Journey Toward the Dream. More information can also be found at ScottyMcCreery.com.
