RENNER, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota authorities have identified a Baltic man killed in a fiery Christmas Eve accident caused by snow a few miles north of Sioux Falls.

Officials with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office say 24-year-old Thomas Hinz lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line of the slippery highway Tuesday afternoon and hit another vehicle. Hinz was thrown from his vehicle upon impact and died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, 64-year-old David Stoterau of Sioux Falls, saw the vehicle fishtail but was unable to avoid the collision. Stoterau was pulled from his burning vehicle by a passer-by and treated at an area hospital.

The wreck remains under investigation.
