The year is 1976.  The 'Outlaw' movement in Country Music has begun, with Waylon, Willie, Paycheck, Tompall and others.

The 'Country-politan' sound is here, as artist's like Ronnie Milsap, Charlie Rich, Freddy Fender and others have huge country hit's that crossover to the pop and rock charts.

Country music is definitely on the change.  The Honky-Tonk songs of the past seem to be, well, in the past.

And then Vernon Oxford comes along...

Honky-Tonk? Sure sounds like it.

Redneck?  Well, there's no question about that!

With his 'Redneck (Redneck Anthem)', Vernon had a Top 20 Country hit. And it was a great one!  One of those songs that, well, when it came on the radio, you couldn't help but turn it up and sing along!

Not familiar with that great classic?  Well, click on the video below and get ready...it's 'Redneck (Redneck Anthem)'!

By the way, Vernon began a Gospel music career back in 1981, and the Rogers, Arkansas native is 74 years old.  Thanks for one GREAT classic Vernon!
