I loved 'Gunsmoke' as a kid growing up on the farm near Leota, Minnesota. In fact, I loved most of the old western's on our black and white TV, and there were plenty to choose from back there in the, ah, 'old days'.

It was a pretty simple premise, really. The bad guys would ride into Doge, raise some heck (yes, some 'heck', this was, after all, the old days), there'd be a gunfight or three and finally, Miss Kitty would serve some cold brew's to Matt, Doc and Festus (or Chester if you're old enough to remember him!).

Nothing ever went wrong in Dodge City. At least it didn't seem like it by the time it got to southwest Minnesota and into our television. But as it turns out, in the real world things weren't always so smooth.

In this classic video from the 1950's, actor James Arness lets us in on what really happened (from time to time) in Dodge and on other classic TV shows.
