Ground Works-Midwest continues to grow with its teaching garden curriculum in elementary schools in the region and is now the lead agency to reinstate South Dakota Ag in the Classroom.

GWM now joins 49 other states where South Dakota has had a strong Ag presence in the classroom and will continue that and build on more opportunities in the future.

GWM will start small, taking an intentional, methodical, incremental approach to state wide reach.

According to Cindy Heidelberger-Larson of GWM:

Growth of the programming will be dependent on staffing and funding capabilities. GWM will set up an advisory board to help guide the growth and speak to the development of programming. All agriculture groups will be integral to this work.

This initiative does not change the mission of GWM through school teaching gardens and Youth Eating Smart(YES) programs.

GWM already meets 65% of National Ag Literacy Content Standards for students in K-8 grades by way of the teaching garden model.
