STURGIS, S.D. (AP) — The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is just getting underway in the Black Hills of western South Dakota, and there already has been one fatality and a lot of arrests.

The Highway Patrol says a man from Edmonton, Alberta, died Saturday when his motorcycle drifted off the road and overturned.

The rally runs from Monday through this coming Sunday. That patrol says officers made 45 drunken driving arrests and 42 drug arrests before the rally even began.

This is the 73rd year for the rally, which draws hundreds of thousands of people annually.
