BRANDON, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota's ninth annual high school competitive cheer and competitive dance championships are set to begin Friday.

Brandon Valley High School will host the championships this year. Competition for Class A is scheduled for Friday, while the Class AA competition will kick off Saturday.

Competitive cheer is divided into two categories: stunting/tumbling and stunting/non-tumbling. Competitive dance will have four categories: hip-hop, jazz, kick and pom.

Nineteen schools plan to compete in Class A cheer and 11 in dance. In Class AA, 14 schools will compete in dance and 16 in cheer.

The state meet will be a two-session tournament. Adult tickets are $10.00 and student tickets are $6.00 each session.
