I've said it before and I'll say it again.

For my money, the greatest songwriter over the past half-century is Kris Kristofferson.

No, he hasn't written the most hit songs, his songs haven't sold more records than anyone, but for pure lyrical genius, well, he does it for me.  From the songs we all know (Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down, For The Good Times, Me And Bobby McGee) to the one's most people don't (Jody And The Kid, When I Loved Her, Jesus Was A Capricorn), they all spoke to me in a way that others writer's haven't.  There are several writer's I admire greatly, but Kris (for me) is the best.

With that being said, Kris has been both admired and despised for his political activism, while others have either liked or disliked his acting.  Singing?  Well, while I readily admit he doesn't have the voice of many other great singers, when he sing his songs, I like it fine.

In this interview, Kris sits down with the editor of Texas Monthly and opens up about his life, his career, a career that earned him induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
