SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sioux Falls officials are recruiting foot soldiers to judge the city sidewalks.

The so-called "walk audit" will help the city evaluate the pedestrian experience in neighborhoods and help improve safety.

The first of several tours is scheduled this weekend in the Cathedral Historic District. Walkers will receive a checklist on sidewalks, crosswalks and traffic.

Sioux Falls healthy community specialist Mary Michaels tells the Argus Leader that the city wants to find out "what would make a neighborhood more walkable."

The event is also meant to help clean up the city and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
