A two-year-old child from Sioux Falls has been located in Idaho, and police say her biological father is in custody.

Lieutenant Matt Burns says the investigation began late Tuesday night when police were called about a child custody dispute in the 3500 block of West 53rd Street.

The woman, who has full custody, told police she had let her daughter go with her biological father, who had recently been living in Oregon but was visiting in the area over the Easter weekend.

The father did not return the child at the agreed-upon time and the mother called police around 11:51pm Tuesday when she became concerned.

Burns says Sioux Falls detectives learned the child's father had left South Dakota, so they used national crime information facilities and through a combined effort with city, county and state authorities in Idaho the father and child were located Wednesday evening.

He says 24-year-old Jared Scott Swets of Grants Pass, Oregon is being held in Ada County, Idaho and is awaiting extradition to South Dakota.

Burns says Swets faces a state charge of taking, enticing away or keeping of an unmarried minor child by a parent, as well as removal of a child from the state.

The child was found in good health and is being reunited with her mother.
