COURTLAND, Minn. (AP) — The sheriff of Nicollet County says daily river searches for a missing kayaker will end.

Fifty-year-old Stephen Fritze, of Watertown, S.D., was kayaking with two friends on the Minnesota River June 22 when they capsized west of Courtland. The two men with Fritze told sheriff's deputies he went under water and never resurfaced.

Area law enforcement agencies searched extensively in the days since Fritze disappeared. The Free Press says officers used cadaver dogs to search unsuccessfully on Sunday. Sheriff David Lange says the daily searches will end.
