SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A Sioux Falls hair salon is raising money for a scholarship named after an employee shot a year ago in the parking lot.

The Cost Cutters on 41st Street is hosting a cut-a-thon Wednesday for the Amanda Connors scholarship.

The cost is $10 a haircut.

Connors was killed Sept. 11, 2012, while trying to protect an employee from the employee's boyfriend. Tyrone Smith killed Connors then held his girlfriend and her co-workers hostage inside the Cost Cutters for about a half hour before killing himself.

The Argus Leader reports the scholarship helps cosmetology students training at Stewart School of Hairstyling.
