Rounds: Federal Government Is in the Health Care Rationing Business

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rounds is clear about what he thinks about Obamacare.

“It’s a way of rationing health care. It’s wrong. It’s not what we want for our dads, our grandmas, for our moms, for our kids.”

In fact, Rounds says rationing what the federal government does – or will do – in all its involvement in health care, from the Indian Health Service to the Department of Veteran Affairs to the Affordable Care Act.

The former South Dakota governor holds particular disdain for the Independent Payment Advisory Board – critics call it the “death panel.” He says that body will not necessarily directly decide who lives and dies, but will do so indirectly by the low reimbursement rates it sets for doctors and hospitals.

Further, according to Rounds, Obamacare takes away insurance and treatment choices that South Dakotans used to have.

“And that choice should allow for us to decide, for ourselves and for our loved ones, with a doctor, what procedures we need and where at.”

With Rounds’ victory in Tuesday’s GOP primary, he competes in the U.S. Senate race in November against Democratic challenger Rick Weiland, independent and former Republican U.S. Sen. Larry Pressler and independent and former Republican state Sen. Gordon Howie.
