SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Residents of a downtown Sioux Falls apartment building had to spend Wednesday night elsewhere after fire forced an evacuation.

KDLT television reports that crews were called to River Terrace East Apartments on East 12th Street about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday after reports of smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters evacuated the building and found flames in the attic of the three-story building. Crews worked to take down the ceiling on the east end of the building to find the source of the blaze.

The Red Cross was on scene to help residents find temporary housing.

Everyone who lives at the apartment building is displaced.
