YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — A plan to place 10 warning sires along a lake in Yankton County has been put on hold because some residents don't want them in front of their homes.

The Yankton Daily Press and Dakotan reports that county emergency management director Paul Scherschligt on Thursday advised county commissioners to reject bids for the Lewis and Clark Lake sirens because there is "no place to put them."

Scherschligt says residents are unhappy with two of the proposed sites. He says homeowners didn't want to look at a 40-foot pole outside their windows and they are worried it would affect property values.

Commissioner Garry Moore says the development is disappointing. He says it's a life safety issue that affects about 4,000 people.
