PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A severe storm that hit Pierre late last month caused about $1 million in damage to municipal structures.

City Administrator Leon Schochenmaier says the winds measured at more than 90 mph and about 2.5 inches of rain damaged trees and roads in the city on June 22.

The Capital Journal reports that the estimate doesn't include damage suffered by private property owners, homes, businesses and vehicles.

The public damage estimate has been sent to state emergency management officials. It could help pave the way for federal aid to help recover from storms that hit Pierre and other parts of the state on June 22.
