Pierre Woman Who Killed Man in Crash Can’t Withdraw Guilty Plea

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Attorney General Marty Jackley says the state Supreme Court won't allow a Sioux Falls woman to withdraw her guilty plea after driving drunk and killing a man.

Jackley said Thursday the court rejected Tammy Kvasnicka's argument she couldn't remember the crimes and pleaded guilty from fear.

Authorities say she drove the wrong way on Interstate 229 while drunk and hit a car. The crash killed a 27-year-old man.

The high court overturned her initial conviction in March 2013, saying it was improper for an officer during trial to compare the force of the crash to more than 900 handguns being fired at once.

Before her second trial, Kvasnicka pleaded guilty to manslaughter and vehicular battery, later trying to withdraw it. She eventually appealed up to the Supreme Court.
