Miranda Lambert: Not Always Tough
Miranda Lambert is one tough chick. She is the fastest girl in town, if you will. She doesn’t strike anyone as insecure, since she oozes beauty, talent and confidence — and she’s also married to one of the most popular male performers in the country genre, Blake Shelton. Despite all of her blessings, however, in the February issue of Redbook the singer admits she can be unsure of herself here and there. In essence, she’s human, just like the rest of us.
“I’m insecure about tons of things!” Lambert bravely admits in her Redbook feature. The singer looks stunning on the cover, in a simple, sleeveless pink frock that clings to her enviable curves.
The Pink Pistol owner confessed that she often cries when she sings her signature hit, ‘The House That Built Me,’ in concert — something we’ve likely all witnessed. The same goes for ‘Over You,’ especially since she and Shelton have had to deal with some pretty painful stuff over the past year.
“Blake and I had all that loss in our lives. It was really hard to get up there after we had been to three funerals,” Lambert reveals of the song the pair co-wrote about Shelton’s late brother. “[Blake's] dad died, my childhood best friend passed away, and then my childhood dog, all in two weeks.”
She continues, “I went back onstage, and I wasn’t ready, but the crowd just embraced me. I was like, ‘Okay, I’m really real. Like, all of this tough-girl image? My walls are down and all these people can see it.’ But it was a good moment for me. I just laid it out there, like, ‘I’m normal, I’m a girl, I have PMS, and I get emotional, and I’m sad sometimes, and that’s it.’”
“I feel like I got over the hump of trying to be like, ‘I have a chip on my shoulder, I’m strong all the time,’ you know? Because no one is,” Lambert acknowledges. It takes a strong woman to admit she’s not strong 100 percent of the time, that’s for sure.
Lambert addressed the fact that burgeoning careers make alone time a precious commodity for country music’s most beloved couple — next to Tim and Faith, of course! But absence does make the heart grow fonder, and even when they are apart, Shelton is always thinking of her, and of course, blabbing about her to whomever will listen. “When I go to the ‘The Voice’ set and everyone says, ‘Blake’s been talking about you so much,’ it just makes me feel special,” Lambert shares.
When they do grab elusive alone time, that’s when Mama Bear Miranda comes out, and she is fiercely protective of their moments together. Of Shelton, she gushes, “He’s the sweetest guy. Like, he will talk to anyone, sign anything, take a picture with everyone.” But there is a limit, since the clock is often ticking and a professional commitment is likely on the horizon for either one of them, so his wife sometimes has to reel it in.
Lambert goes on, “And if I don’t stop it at some point, it ruins our whole night. I have to be the bad guy. The people are like ‘Oh, God, don’t mess with her …’”
When you see it from her perspective — as a woman with limited time with her husband — you can’t blame her for taking charge, now can you?
