SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The Minnehaha County Commission has adopted a contract for about 200 jail employees and patrol deputies.

Commission Administrative Officer Ken McFarland says the new contract includes scheduled step increases for deputies in 2014 and a one-percent salary increase or the percentage increase the commission approves for its other employees, whichever is greater.

There are no guaranteed salary increases for 2015 or 2016. A wage study will be conducted in 2014, however. Based on those findings, the deputies' salaries may be negotiated for 2015 and 2016.

Sheriff Mike Milstead tells The Argus Leader that he is "very pleased" with the contracts for 2014-2016.
