It’s the season of giving, and while many of us get the ‘giving bug’ more around the holidays, one Sioux Falls boy helps kids fulfill their dreams year-round.

Meet one of the coolest kids around: Donnie Stoltz, age 13.

In 2011 at the age of eight, he was watching CBS Sunday Morning with his mother, Amy. Donnie was inspired by a man on the show who was helping out people in his community. This compassionate kid decided on his own that he too wanted to do something to help people in his hometown. This paved the way for his organization ‘Project Donnie.’

Donnie began working with local business owners to raise money for people in our area who were struggling to find food, clothing and other basic needs that many of us take for granted. Again, he did this as an eight year-old!

After finding he loved helping others in need, last year he developed a new project entitled ‘Donnie’s Closet.’ This organization was created to gather sporting equipment for kids in the community who may not be able to afford it on their own. That way, more kids have the chance to participate in sports and other hobbies, no matter their family’s situation.

Over the past year, Donnie has collected new or lightly-used equipment and donated it to over 100 children in the Sioux Falls area, and he has no plans of stopping any time soon. Donnie knows how fun it can be to be involved in sports, and how it can make such a great impact on someone’s life.

Donnie Stoltz is truly an inspiring kid. He and his organizations are a good reminder that something as simple as donating old equipment, rather than throwing it away, can affect a child so greatly.

If you would like to get involved and donate any equipment to ‘Donnie’s Closet,’ you can contact him by joining the ‘Donnie’s Closet’ page on Facebook. He actively posts requests from families for specific items, or you can donate any new or used gear in general.

You can also email him at donniesclosetproject@gmail.com.

Thanks for all you are doing in the community, Donnie!
