SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Jury selection is underway in the trial of a man accused of murder, rape and burglary in the death of a Sioux Falls woman.

Forty-one-year-old Christopher Kryger has pleaded not guilty in the slaying of 56-year-old Kari Anne Kirkegaard, who was found dead in her bathtub on March 16, 2014. Authorities say she had been raped and strangled.

Kryger has an extensive criminal history and has spent much of his adult life in prison following an aggravated assault and arson conviction in 1992.

The Argus Leader reports that jury selection began Tuesday and is expected to continue the rest of the week.

Prosecutors have not yet decided if they will seek the death penalty should Kryger be convicted.
