There were a lot of great Country Artist's in 1969 with hit's that would become legendary.

At the CMA Awards Show in October of that year, if you looked out over the crowd, you would have thought you had wandered into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

There sits Tammy Wynette.  Over there is Glen Campbell.  Oh look, Merle Haggard and Charley Pride!  Wait, is that....yep, it's Sonny James, Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton.

And on and on...the star's shone so bright underneath one roof, you probably should have worn sunglasses!

But the night belonged to one man, perhaps the greatest name in Country Music History.

1969 belonged to the Man In Black, Johnny Cash.

Viewers of the show that year probably thought he won every award!

Well, no...but he was close.  After all, it was Tammy Wynette that won 'Female Vocalist Of The Year (Johnny came in second...kidding!)  And the 'Song Of The Year' actually went to writer Bob Ferguson for 'Carroll County Accident'.

But Johnny won a bunch.  And I mean a bunch!

Male Vocalist Of The Year? Johnny Cash.

Vocal Group Of The Year? Yep, Johnny with his wife, June.

Album Of The Year? Of course, 'Johnny Cash At San Quentin Prison'.

Single Of The Year? What else, 'A Boy Named Sue'.

And the most coveted prize of the night (and year)? Do I have to say, really?  Mr. John R. Cash

So sit back, enjoy Johnny singing the Single of the Year and if someone asks you who was the biggest star in Country Music in 1969, tell 'em Johnny...and you can bet Cash on that!
