SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — State Corrections officials are working to address the use of an illegal synthetic drug at the minimum security unit of the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.

Authorities believe smuggled synthetic drugs likely sickened two inmates this week, and they say similar incidents have occurred in the past.

State Corrections Secretary Denny Kaemingk tells the Argus Leader newspaper that a synthetic drug known as K2 has been found on inmates and during urinalysis tests.

Kaemingk says officials are reviewing procedures, including those for searches conducted on inmates when they return to the facility after leaving for work release or to perform community service.
