His first number one hit came in 1958 with 'It's Only Make Believe'.
His final number one hit came in 1986 with 'Desperado Love' (although he would have 10 more Top Ten hits after that!).
In between those two number one's he had 53 others. You read right, 55 number one hit's! It was unprecedented at the time and has only been surpassed by George Strait since.
It seemed like Conway Twitty had been with us forever, and would continue to be with us forever. But of, course he wasn't.
It was June 5 in 1993 that the world received the news. Conway Twitty had died at the age of 59. He was on his way back to Nashville from Branson, Missouri.
