For those of you old enough to remember the Howdy Doody Show, it was first broadcast on this date in 1947 on the NBC Television Network.

With the show being "a bit before my time," I found it interesting to learn that the puppet had 48 freckles - one for each state in the Union at that time.

Do you remember who Howdy Doody's friend was?  Buffalo Bob.  He would always start out the show by saying, "Hey kids, what time is it?"

I wonder if there was ever a time when a kid in the audience hollered out, "Oh, it's roughly 7:30 Buffalo Bob." - that would've been funny.

Imagine what kids of that generation would've thought of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

A couple of other interesting entries I found in today's "Big Book of Stuff"...

The Peanuts gang made the cover of "Newsweek" on this date in 1971.  When the comic strip first launched, creator Charles Schultz described Charlie Brown as being "a typical four year old."  (There's your trivia for the day.)

And today is National "Fruitcake Day."  Statistics show one third of all fruitcakes sold each year - are never eaten.

Wonder why?
