SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Officials say recent hail storms on both sides of South Dakota were some of the worst in years.

The National Weather Service says a Saturday night storm caused heavy damage to trees, homes and cars in Sioux Falls, and was one of the worst hail storms to hit the state's largest city in the past decade.

Local car dealership sales manager Kevin Rost tells the Argus Leader that as many as 900 vehicles at that dealership were damaged.

Storm damage in the city is still being calculated.

Rapid City went through a storm Friday that had hail the size of baseballs. Local insurance agent Gene Hufford tells KOTA-TV that it's the worst hailstorm he's seen in his career. He estimates damage in the millions of dollars.
