HURON, S.D. (AP) — The state's 4-H participants are getting closer to having a dedicated home at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.

The state Department of Agriculture announced Monday that the groundbreaking for the Nordby Exhibit Hall for 4-H, Youth and Community is scheduled for May 27.

Lt. Gov. Matt Michels will speak at the event, and the public is invited.

The South Dakota State Fair Foundation has raised nearly $3.9 million of the $4.7 million goal to construct the facility. The 48,000-square-foot hall will feature multiple classrooms, a large kitchen for 4-H special food competitions and a performance stage.
