It's the centerpiece, the heartbeat of every small town, every rural community. I know that's true because I grew up in one.

The church. It doesn't really matter the denomination. It's Sunday morning, a church bell in ringing, and while a small community is always close, now it tightens.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of country/gospel music being recorded anymore. Perhaps it's not 'commercial' enough for artists or companies. Maybe it doesn't make the money that other more 'mainstream' songs make.

No matter. That wasn't really the goal anyway. It was deeper than that. There was a day when all, and I mean virtually all, the biggest stars in the country music world would regularly release country/gospel albums. From Pride to Cash, Hank to Buck to Gentleman Jim, they all did.

And those country/gospel songs always brought me back, back to a little country church.

In this great video, the Bill Gaither Group brings us the 'Old Country Church'. What do you say? Let's crank it up, smile, clap along...and remember.
