Gaming Industry Reacts to Tom Clancy’s Passing
The world of military thrillers and espionage may never be the same after Tom Clancy's passing, but the outpouring of support from the gaming industry shows a lot of love for the man behind franchises like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.
Ubisoft has been the home to many a Tom Clancy video game over the past decade and beyond, and the publisher didn't shy away from sharing its condolences and support for the man who inspired the likes of Sam Fisher.
Though The Division is still currently in development for a 2014 release, the upcoming tactical shooter MMO for next-gen consoles owes plenty to Clancy. As such, the team behind the game shared their thoughts on the game's official Twitter.
The team over on Splinter Cell echoed the sentiments, offering condolences as well. Splinter Cell: Blacklist was the most recent entry in the series, and also the most recent Tom Clancy video game to see release.
"We have all banded together with the common appreciation for a great man and his work," the devs posted on Facebook. "His legacy in games, movies, and books has inspired us all, and will continue to do so. Rest in Peace, Tom Clancy."
More Ubisoft studios turned out to support the family in this time of sadness, with each offering support for the family and fans.
It's a sad day all around, but the outpouring of support is not surprising in the least. Tom Clancy's influence will continue to be felt in the years to come, and his legacy is one that will clearly not be forgotten.
