Record rainfall this weekend and for the month of June has already pushed area streams and creeks to flood stage, and now the National Weather Service is forecasting another bout of storms and heavy rain Monday and possibly into Tuesday which could bring another 1-2 inches of rain to the over-saturated area, which has led to the Flood Warning issued for the area.

With the  four and a half inches of rain recorded at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport overnight,  Sioux Falls has officially received 9 inches of rain in the month of June already. Higher amounts have been recorded in Iowa and Minnesota.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the following, in Minnesota and Iowa:

ROCK RIVER AT ROCK VALLEY
LITTLE SIOUX RIVER AT SPENCER
WEST FORK DITCH NEAR HORNICK
SPLIT ROCK CREEK BELOW JASPER
ROCK RIVER NEAR HARDWICK

While the forecast calls for a break today with sunshine and highs in the mid 70s, the forecast for Monday has showers and thunderstorms developing Monday afternoon which could bring heavy rainfall again.

Sunday morning we woke up to a portion of I-90 being under water near the Hills Beaver Creek are forcing the closure of the interstate in southwestern Minnesota. Scanner traffic has reported areas of flooding on 57th street in Sioux Falls, and I-229 and 10th street among many other areas (and countless basements I'm sure.

The extended weather forecast for this week calls for at least a chance of rain every day except Wednesday, so it doesn't look like we're out of the woods yet.
