Board Recommends Name for Big Sioux River Island

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The state's Board on Geographic Names wants to call an unnamed island in Minnehaha County Dells Island.

Based on public comments, the board recently voted to recommend Dells Island to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names for its consideration.

The island is located in the Big Sioux River near Dell Rapids.

The board is giving people until Nov. 7 to weigh in on the suggestion.
