Blake Shelton Dishes on Why Country Is Taking Over ‘The Voice’

NBC’s hit reality television show ‘The Voice‘ has seen its share of country singers each season, but this year’s fourth season has seen more cowboy boots and country twangs than ever before. Country star and show coach Blake Shelton gives the scoop on why country is taking over ‘The Voice.’

Several of the semi-finalists identified with the country music genre, and everyone’s taking note. ”I’ve never read so much about ‘The Voice’ this year as I have talking about how it’s dominated by country artists, but it is a, kind of, stand-out, interesting thing,” Shelton tells MTV, noting, “In the years past, we had four pop singers left in the competition at this point and it didn’t read, hear so much about it.”

Shelton attributes country music’s success on ‘The Voice’ partially to his experience in picking the perfect song for each artist. An impactful song coupled with a singer’s natural talent, leads to lots of votes, in the ‘Boys ‘Round Here’ hitmaker’s opinion. “I think that’s why I’ve had three contestants go this far because I at least know what songs are the right one for each particular artist,” Shelton says.

When he signed on for a fourth season, the star may not have anticipated such a strong country showing, but now he’s reaping the benefits by having not one, but two strong candidates in ‘The Voice’ finals, including Danielle Bradbery and fan favorite duo the Swon Brothers. Team Usher‘s Michelle Chamuel is also a final contestant — the lone “pop” singer of the group.

Shelton has high hopes on having ‘The Voice’ winner in his group, saying, ”From Team Blake, Danielle Bradbery has been a frontrunner…Danielle has probably been the most consistent in leading iTunes.”

There’s a 2/3 chance that the winner of the competition will be a country music artist, so odds are definitely in Shelton’s favor.
