ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — The recently added Avera sign at Northern State University's Barnett Center eclipses the marker denoting the facility's name.

The Aberdeen American News reports that the sign comes from a partnership between the university and the health system.

The two partnered to upgrade the facility. The new Avera sign is larger, brighter and higher than the building's name.

Josh Moon, the university's athletic director, says so far nobody has walked into the building believing it's a medical center.

Avera gave $1.5 million toward the $3.2 million upgrade, which added 10,000 square feet.

Neither Moon nor Avera spokesman Jay Gravholt could detail the dimensions of the sign. It will be up into 2020.
