Authorities: 14-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in Yankton

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 14-year-old boy has been fatally shot in Yankton.

The Yankton County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that deputies responded to a residence Saturday afternoon. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Yankton County Sheriff Jim Vlahakis told the Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan that the boy died Saturday and the gunshot wasn't self-inflicted. He said more information would be available soon.

The sheriff's office and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating.
