PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A company that Pierre has eyed for passenger air service has received federal approval to begin offering scheduled flights.

Pierre in November 2014 recommended Aerodynamics Inc. to provide flights through the Essential Air Service federal subsidy program. But management questions plagued the company.

Aerodynamics last year cut ties with the CEO whose legal and financial problems had led to federal scrutiny. The Transportation Department last week gave the company permission to fly scheduled passenger air service.

Company vice president Mickey Bowman tells KCCR radio that approval is still needed from the Federal Aviation Administration. He tells the Capital Journal that Aerodynamics hopes to begin flying between Pierre and Denver later this year.

Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill says she'll be meeting with civil leaders this week about how to proceed.
