Independent country artist Aaron Watson has announced the release of his new album, Vaquero, expected in early 2017.

Vaquero, which means "original cowboy" in Spanish, drops on Feb. 24. Described as "intensely reflective and personal set of songs filled with compelling narratives," Watson's new album will feature 16 songs, all of which were written or co-written by the country singer, including his current single, “Outta Style." The album also includes tracks like “Big Love in a Small Town,” “Amen Amigo" — which portrays an authentic view of life in Texas (Watson hails from Amarillo) — and "Diamonds & Daughters," which has the singer opening up about his daughter. Watson is releasing the project on his own label, BIG Label Records, in partnership with Nashville-based independent distributor Thirty Tigers.

"With Vaquero, Watson continues to challenge current trends and stay true to his muse," Watson and his team explain in a press release. "The 16-song collection finds the Texas native following the trail back to his roots, keying in on his influences and tipping his hat to the fans and family who helped set the foundation for his success...With Vaquero, he keeps his Texas flare and honest songwriting at the forefront."

Watson has been acting as a successful independent country artist for several years. He made history in 2015 when his 10th studio album, The Underdog, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, making him the first male independent country artist to ever accomplish the feat. Vaquero serves as the follow up to highly successful release. It is the eleventh studio album of his 17-year career.
