It's a word that will always be linked to the 37th President of the United States of America.

Watergate.

For the first and only time in the history of the United States, a President resigned from the highest office in the land.

The details of Watergate are, of course, well know and even today it seems, ever evolving.  Some of the 'players' in the saga are still with us, but of course with the passage of years and decades, many involved with the break-in, cover-up and scandal are gone.

Richard Nixon passed away in April of 1994.

In the video below, you'll see the minutes before the President gave his speech, as well as the speech itself.

Me? i was working at my first radio job at KXYR in Winner, S.D.  We, of course, carried the speech live as did virtually every other radio and television station.

Now, back we go, some forty years.  It is the night of August 8, 1974.  And the President of the United States has an announcement to make.  Quite an announcement.
