‘Winter Weather Advisory’ Issued For Sioux Falls Area
While locations north of the Sioux Falls tri-state area are expecting 4 – 8 inches of snow Thursday into Friday we here along interstate-90 can anticipate rain and icing.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for Minnehaha County including Sioux Falls in effect until 7 pm Thursday evening.
We can expect freezing rain or drizzle with ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch. Plan on slippery road conditions, especially bridges and overpasses. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
Also, be sure to slow down and use caution while traveling. Prepare for possible power outages.
The NWS Forecast into the weekend looks like this:
Thursday: Rain likely, possibly mixed with freezing rain before 7am, then rain between 7am and 1pm, then a chance of drizzle after 1pm. High near 35. Breezy, with a northeast wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected.
Thursday Night: A slight chance of drizzle before 7pm. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 33. North northwest wind around 15 mph.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. North northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Saturday: A chance of snow after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 34. East wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
