Somewhere near the town of Tulare, South Dakota, Troy James' car ran out of gas early Monday and called for help. The responding deputy noticed James acting "bizarrely" and called for backup. That's when he pushed the officer out of his own patrol car and sped off.

A high-speed chase that followed lasted over 140 miles. And it would have probably gone longer had James not run out of gas - again.

According to the Aberdeen American News, James was charged with felony theft and endangering a police officer.
