South Dakota Crop Report

(AP) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture says South Dakota's corn crop is advancing in maturity but is lagging behind last year's pace.

The department says South Dakota's crop is 40 percent mature, well behind last year's 86 percent and slightly behind the five-year average of 45 percent. Harvest is four percent complete, behind the five-year average of seven percent. The corn crop's condition is rated three percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 47 percent good and 13 percent excellent.

About 72 percent of South Dakota's soybean plants are dropping leaves, well behind last year's 97 percent and slightly behind the 80 percent five-year average. The condition is six percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 42 percent good and seven percent excellent.
