South Dakota: 138 New COVID-19 Cases, Ten More Have Recovered

South Dakota state health officials announced on Monday that 138 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the state.  Dakota News Now reports this is the biggest one-day increase in positive tests for the state.

There are now 868 confirmed cases in South Dakota.

8134 have tested negative for the disease.

204 patients have recovered, adding ten from the prior day's total.

44 COVID-19 cases have required patient hospitalization and six have died from the disease.

Minnehaha County, and Sioux Falls specifically, lead South Dakota in COVID-19 cases, claiming over 80 of the state's total.

The Smithfield Foods meat processing plant has been called a COVID-19 'hot spot' by state health officials.  Of the 654 cases in Minnehaha County, 350 involve people who work at Smithfield.  The plant has temporarily closed due to the outbreak.

Lincoln County is second in the state with 50 confirmed cases, followed by Yankton County with 22 and Beadle County with 21 cases.
