Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says authorities are searching for two men in connection with the cashing of bogus checks at local banks.

"We had a couple of men that picked up two guys and really offered them a job. They thought it was going to be day labor. It turns out they wanted these men to go into different banks and cash what we believe were fraudulent checks. At one point in time, one of the suspects showed a gun to the other two guys. That's when one of them knew something wasn't right. One of the guys left the bank and ran across the street to try to get away. The other person chased him down and brought him back to the car. Both of the victims were dropped off unharmed."

Clemens says the investigation into the check cashing scheme is underway.

"We are still trying to figure out who these people are and find out what their connection is to the crime. We have some good leads right now. We will wait and see and find out how everything shakes out."

Some of the checks were successfully cashed by several banks.
