What happens when you decide to fly a confederate flag from a vehicle during a holiday parade? You get suspended.

That's what has happened to a Minnesota volunteer firefighter.

Brian Nielsen drove a Hartland Fire Department truck in the Third of July Parade in the southern Minnesota city of Albert Lea.

Nielsen made the decision to fly both the Confederate flag and the American flag from the back of a fire engine during the event, a move that's drawing a great deal of criticism from the community and on social media.

Nielsen informed the Associated Press on Sunday that his fire chief has suspended him pending an investigation into the incident. He also says he's willing to apologize to the Albert Lea Chamber of Commerce, which organized the parade.

He also said that he expects to be asked to resign as a result of his decision.

According to Nielsen he made the choice to fly the flag because he's fed up with political correctness and didn't realize how much trouble it would cause.
