Macy's announced early this year that they planned to close multiple locations across the US by the end of 2024. At the time, that number was 50 stores. We also didn't know if any of those locations closing would be in Minnesota.

I just recently learned that Macy's now plans to close even more stores than we originally thought by the end of 2024.

Macy's Plans to Close Over 100 Stores

Back in February of 2024, Macy's made their announcement that they'll be closing a total of 150 stores over the next few years. 50 of those they planned to close before the end of 2024, the other 100 would close over the following few years.

They aren't increasing the total number of stores closing over the next few years, they just increased how many will be closing in 2024. The announcement was made in an earnings call at the end of August.

In Minnesota, we have 11 Macy's locations with most of them being located in the Twin Cities area.

Mall of America, Bloomington

Burnsville Center, Burnsville

Southdale Center, Edina

On France Ave. in Edina (Macy's le Furniture Clearance Center and Macy's Southdale Furniture and Mattress Gallery)

Maplewood Mall, Maplewood

Ridgedale Mall, Minnetonka

Apache Mall, Rochester

On Commerce St. in Roseville

Rosedale Center, Roseville

Are any of these locations at risk of closing? Yes, they are at risk but unfortunately, no official list of which stores are closing has been released.

How Many Macy's Stores Are Closing in 2024

After the earnings call back at the end of August, we learned that Macy's plans to close 55 stores by the end of this year. However, we're going to have to wait and see if any of our Minnesota locations are affected by the closures.
