The ‘Field of Dreams’ Movie Site Has Been Sold
"If you sell it...they will buy." Not the voice that Ray Kinsella heard in his Iowa cornfield all those years ago. But it has come true nonetheless. The Field of Dreams movie site has been sold.
The Telegraph Herald reports that the famous Iowa landmark has officially been sold to Iowa-based nonprofit Dyersville Events Inc. The group takes over ownership from Go The Distance Baseball, according to a press release. The sale price has not been released.
The press release stated that the sale and change in ownership will ensure that the vision for the Field of Dreams property "is in the hands of Iowans in perpetuity under the stewardship of a Dyersville, Iowa-based nonprofit organization.” The new ownership group is already said to be making plans to enhance and preserve the property.
The Telegraph Herald reports that development of the site has been ongoing since 2022. It was set to be completed by 2025 but has been delayed by a number of different issues. Officials say that supply-chain problems have been a significant issue. Work on an $80 million project called 'Project Heaven' commenced in the fall of 2022. Attractions will include a youth sports complex, boutique hotel, RV park, and an amphitheater. A permanent 3,000-seat baseball stadium next to the original Field of Dreams is also under construction.
The Telegraph Herald reports that officials hope the new group will help the Field of Dreams grow as a tourist destination and and national treasure. Any future improvements will be decided by the nonprofit's board.
