WHERE ARE THE SPEED LIMITS GOING UP?

In North DakotaGovernor Kelly Armstrong has signed a bill raising the speed limits on the interstates in the Peace Garden State.

HOW MUCH ARE THEY GOING UP?

The speed limits will be raised by five miles per hour, from 75 to 80, on Interstate 94 and Interstate 29.

LATE TO THE PARTY

North Dakota joins neighbors South Dakota and Montana with 80 mile per hour speed limits on the interstates.

The Mount Rushmore State and the Big Sky State made the change in 2015.

Seven other states currently have 80 mile per hour speed limits:

SPEEDING WILL COST MORE

But it's not all good news for North Dakota drivers.

The new speed limits will also usher in increased fines for exceeding the limit.

Starting August 1, the minimum fine for speeding will be $20, or $5 for every mile per hour over the speed limit on highways with a speed limit of 65 mph or higher, whichever is greater. An additional $20 will be added for speeds more than 16 mph over the limit.
